Who Is Responsible

This professional website is operated by William van Wyk. For privacy enquiries, access requests, objections or deletion requests, email william@williamvanwyk.com with “Privacy” in the subject.

Contact Enquiries

When you submit the contact form, the website processes your name, email address, optional company and message to respond to your enquiry. Your message is delivered to William, not published on the website or subscribed to a general mailing list. Please do not include sensitive personal information or confidential documents unless necessary for the discussion.

A necessary session cookie protects the form against forged requests. The server applies anti-abuse limits, which may process a temporary, keyed representation of a network address. Hosting and email services also process information necessary for website operation, message delivery and security, and may retain operational logs.

Limited Website Statistics

The public website uses a first-party, cookie-free statistics service to understand which pages are accessed, broad referral sources, campaign labels supplied in links, general browser and device categories, approximate country from the hosting network or a locally stored IP-to-country reference, and coarse interactions such as contact-link clicks, page engagement and contact-form status. No contact-form field contents are included in the statistics.

No analytics cookies, local or session storage identifiers, persistent browser IDs or device fingerprints are used for these statistics. A random reference generated in memory for one page load can group activity on that page; it is not carried to other pages or future visits. As a result, the statistics measure page loads and on-page activity, not identifiable people, reliable repeat visits or complete multi-page journeys.

The statistics service does not send visitors' IP addresses to an external geolocation provider. Where the hosting infrastructure does not supply a country code, the web server can briefly consult a locally stored reference of IP ranges and countries. The reference is downloaded separately by the website owner; visitor IP addresses are not included in that download. Approximate country information may be unavailable or inaccurate. A network address can be used briefly by the website server for security and rate limiting, but is not stored in the new analytics event records or used to recognise returning visitors. Browser Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals are respected by the statistics service.

These first-party statistics support website maintenance, security, usability and an understanding of which professional content attracts interest. Where European data protection law applies, processing is based on legitimate interests only to the extent permitted by applicable law, including applicable rules concerning access to terminal equipment. Where South African law applies, processing is subject to POPIA. If another legal basis or prior permission is required in a visitor's jurisdiction, the website operator must ensure compliance before collecting that data.

Storage And Retention

Statistics events are retained for up to 90 days, with expired events removed during routine system use. The temporary per-page reference is stored only with those event records to link activity within that page load. New statistics events do not retain full or masked IP addresses, precise locations, internet-service providers, screen dimensions or browser fingerprint profiles. Limited anti-abuse counters are retained for up to 24 hours. Previously collected records from the earlier consent-based installation may remain until their existing retention period expires, and earlier location cache entries expire under their established cleanup rules.

Enquiries and professional correspondence are kept for as long as reasonably needed to respond, manage discussions or meet legal obligations. Hosting and email provider logs and backups may have different retention periods.

The website relies on hosting and email providers to operate its infrastructure and handle enquiries. Those providers may process information outside South Africa. Appropriate legal protections apply where required. Statistics are not sold, used for targeted advertising or deliberately shared with third-party advertising networks. The statistics tracker uses no external visitor-location lookup service; the optional country reference is processed locally on the hosting server.

Your Choices And Rights

Where applicable, you can ask whether personal information about you is held, request access or correction, object to processing, and seek deletion or restriction subject to legal exceptions. Additional rights may apply under the GDPR, POPIA or relevant US state laws. Browser Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signals prevent collection through the first-party statistics script. Browser privacy tools may also block website statistics requests.

Send requests to william@williamvanwyk.com. You may also complain to the South African Information Regulator or another competent data-protection authority where applicable. Because page-load statistics are not tied to persistent identities, it may not be possible to retrieve or remove a specific person's otherwise anonymous event record without a corresponding reference.

Security, Children And Changes

The private visitor dashboard is access restricted. Forms use server-side validation, request tokens and submission limits. No system can guarantee absolute security. This professional website is not directed at children. Material changes to these practices will be reflected in this notice and its last-updated date.
